Not Sold on Wellness Technology? You’re Not Alone – And That’s Smart

If you are the type who wants to see proof before buying into the next wellness trend, we get it. With the explosion of wellness buzzwords, miracle claims, and “magic fixes” appearing every day, your skepticism is healthy. At Body Lab Studio in Myrtle Beach, our philosophy is simple: real results for real clients, backed by real science. This article is for people who ask, “How do I know this actually works?” and genuinely want to see the research behind modern wellness technology.

Cutting Through the Noise: Why Skepticism Matters

In today’s world of noisy infomercials and wild health claims, it is more important than ever to question what you put in and on your body. At Body Lab Studio, we encourage every client to do exactly that:

  • Ask questions: “Cool tool, what is the science behind this?”
  • Demand transparency: Are claims based on peer-reviewed research? Are there clear protocols and limitations?
  • Track your own progress: Do you actually feel, look, or function better after sessions?
  • Value educated professionals: Choose trained experts and clinically validated equipment over unverified claims

Technology-Based Wellness at Body Lab Studio: The Why and the How

Infrared Wellness

What the science says: Clinical research has demonstrated that infrared therapy sessions can increase circulation, reduce muscle soreness and joint pain, support tissue healing, and improve recovery after exercise. A 2006 randomized controlled trial of 40 patients found significantly reduced pain scores with infrared therapy compared to placebo over a two-week treatment period (Gale et al., Pain Research and Management).

While that study used a portable infrared device for low back pain, it reflects a broader body of published evidence supporting infrared energy for pain modulation and recovery. A separate 2022 crossover study of 16 resistance-trained male athletes found that a single post-exercise infrared sauna session improved neuromuscular recovery markers and reduced reported muscle soreness compared to passive rest (Ahokas et al., Biology of Sport, 2023). These are encouraging findings, and larger-scale replication continues to build the evidence base.

Our infrared wellness pods use clinically supported far infrared heat combined with dry heat convection, vibration massage, chromotherapy, and aromatherapy. Sessions are non-invasive and tailored for your comfort and goals. Results vary between individuals and build cumulatively with consistent use.

POLY Red Light Therapy

The evidence: Red light therapy, also called photobiomodulation (PBM), is backed by substantial clinical research and our POLY device carries FDA 510(k) clearance. The POLY system operates at a primary wavelength of 633nm, which is the clinically validated wavelength for stimulating fibroblasts, boosting collagen production, reducing inflammation, and supporting cellular repair at the skin level. An optional near-infrared setting at 880nm allows for deeper tissue applications including muscle recovery and joint support.

A 2023 clinical study of 30 participants found that regular red light therapy at validated wavelengths significantly reduced wrinkle depth and improved dermal density over three months of consistent use (Couturaud et al., Skin Research and Technology). While this study used a different device format, it reflects the broader evidence base for red light at the wavelengths our POLY system delivers. Multiple systematic reviews and meta-analyses across dozens of randomized controlled trials have found consistent evidence supporting photobiomodulation for pain reduction, recovery, and skin quality outcomes — with the strength of evidence varying by application and study design.

We use science-validated wavelengths and clear dosing protocols. Clients track skin, muscle, and mood improvements with before-and-after measures, often noticing meaningful change after several consistent sessions.

Lymphatic Drainage

The evidence: Mechanical lymphatic therapies, including LPG Endermologie, have been studied for decades. The strongest clinical evidence supports their use for reducing post-surgical swelling, managing lymphedema, and accelerating recovery after injury. For general wellness purposes in healthy individuals, the evidence for broader benefits is more limited, but many clients report meaningful reductions in puffiness, improved circulation, and a general sense of reset. A 2025 literature review in Applied Sciences confirmed Endermologie’s role as both a complementary therapeutic tool and an effective aesthetic procedure across multiple outcome areas (Kolodziejczak et al., Applied Sciences, 2025).

All LPG Endermologie sessions at Body Lab Studio are delivered by trained professionals using a personalized approach, and results are tracked with objective before-and-after measures.

EMS + RF Sculpting

The evidence: Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) and Radiofrequency (RF) devices, when used together, have been clinically shown to enhance muscle tone, drive collagen production, reduce abdominal soft-tissue thickness, and improve circumferential measurements with results documented in peer-reviewed studies.

A 2024 multicenter prospective study of 44 patients found that a series of three combined EMS and RF treatments produced a statistically significant average reduction of 1.9cm in abdominal circumference and a measurable decrease in soft-tissue thickness, with histology confirming subcutaneous fat reduction without damage to the dermal layer (Vranis et al., Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum, 2024).

Similar technologies are used in both rehabilitation and non-invasive body contouring settings globally. Individual results vary based on starting point, session consistency, and lifestyle habits.

LED Photobiomodulation (POLY): Supporting Tissue Health

The evidence: Photobiomodulation using LED sources is applied in physical therapy, sports medicine, and aesthetic practice. A comprehensive review of published clinical studies across multiple populations found that PBM at validated wavelengths promotes wound healing, reduces pain, and enhances tissue repair (Dompe et al., Journal of Clinical Medicine, 2020).

Study durations in the reviewed literature ranged from 2 to 16 weeks with sample sizes from 20 to 60 participants. At Body Lab Studio, this technology is delivered through the POLY system using 1,820 medical-grade LEDs at a clinically validated irradiance output of 60 mW/cm2.

Measuring What Matters: Tracking Your Wellness Results

Every Body Lab Studio client is encouraged to track personal measures that matter, including:

  • Energy levels, workout recovery, comfort, and soreness
  • Skin clarity, texture, and firmness
  • Sleep quality and stress resilience

By combining subjective improvements with objective before-and-after measures, you can assess whether the technology and your commitment are making a tangible difference. This is how we hold ourselves accountable to you.

A Commitment to Peer-Reviewed Results

Body Lab Studio does not cherry-pick studies or make unsupportable claims. Infrared and red light therapies are published in respected medical journals for pain, recovery, skin aging, and tissue repair. Lymphatic drainage via LPG Endermologie is used in rehabilitation worldwide. EMS and RF are trusted by hospitals and athletic facilities globally. Where evidence is strong, we say so. Where it is still developing or mixed, we say that too.

Science Questions from Skeptics

1. Is all technology the same?

No. Device quality, accurate dosing protocols, and the expertise of the staff matter significantly. We use clinically validated, professional-grade equipment — including FDA-cleared devices — operated by trained team members.

Science shows cumulative effects matter most in wellness protocols. Like training for a marathon or completing a course of physical therapy, consistency pays off. Many clients notice early subjective changes – such as improved energy, reduced puffiness, or a sense of calm – within their first few sessions. Measurable objective improvements typically build over consistent weeks of treatment, much like the cumulative effects seen in clinical study protocols.

Every program starts with clear, measurable goals so you will know when you reach milestones or need to adjust your approach. We track your progress with you, not just for you.
