Infrared is a type of light. Your eyes can’t see it, but your body feels it as gentle heat, the same warmth you get from the sun on your skin or a warm stove, minus the harmful UV rays. In wellness, infrared means using that invisible light to warm the body from the inside, and a lot of people find it genuinely relaxing and helpful for recovery. There are three kinds, near, mid, and far infrared, and each one is used a little differently. If you have ever stepped into an infrared pod or walked on an infrared treadmill and wondered what was actually happening to your body, this guide is for you.
What does infrared actually mean?
Not a gym. Not a spa. Not a sauna. Body Lab is an infrared wellness and fitness studio in Myrtle Beach, and most people who walk in are not totally sure what that means yet either.
Most people do not walk into Body Lab knowing exactly what they need. They walk in saying “I feel puffy,” or “I feel tight,” or “I just want to feel better in my body.”
That is actually the perfect place to start. You do not need a plan. You just need to notice how you feel right now, and let that point you to your first session.
Take the 60-second feeling check
Read the five lines below. Whichever one you nod at, that is your section.
- My hands, feet, or midsection feel puffy or heavy by the end of the day
- My muscles feel sore or tight more often than not
- My legs feel heavy, or I feel sluggish before I even get moving
- I want more tone or contour and I am not sure where to start
- I honestly do not know, I just want to feel better
Found yours? Here is exactly where we would point you.
If you feel puffy or heavy
Start with lymphatic support. Puffiness and heaviness are usually your body asking for better flow, not a harder workout. Our body treatments and the VacuTherm training combine gentle pressure with infrared heat to help support circulation and lymphatic flow.
If you feel sore or tight
Start with recovery support. Sore muscles and tight joints do not need more strain, they need warmth, movement, and time to reset. This is where the Body Roller and infrared recovery tools come in, helping ease tension while supporting circulation underneath.
If your legs feel heavy or you feel sluggish
Start with low pressure movement. Some days your body wants to move, just not hard. Infrared fitness on the VacuTherm treadmill gives you gentle, low impact movement with heat and light working alongside you, so you leave feeling looser instead of more drained.
If you want tone or contour
Start with a goal, and a little guidance. Toning and contouring are not one size fits all, and they are not one machine either. We use a few different tools here, each with its own job:
- Radiofrequency helps support smoother, tighter looking skin, non-invasive with no downtime
- Cavitation helps support the look of stubborn areas that do not respond to diet and exercise alone
- LPG is a deep, motorized massage that helps support circulation, lymphatic flow, and body contour
Once we know what you are working toward, we can put the right combination behind it.
This one deserves a real plan, not a purchase.
Let's talk through what actually fits — no cart, no checkout, just a conversation.
Book a Free ConsultationIf you are not sure at all
Start with a 3D scan and a real conversation. Sometimes the most honest answer is “I don’t know yet,” and that is completely fine. A quick scan gives us a clear starting point, and a short first visit conversation does the rest.
Curious what a scan actually shows you?
It's quick, painless, and gives us real numbers to work from, not guesses.
Book a 3D ScanWhat your first visit actually looks like?
The biggest reason people put off a first visit is not price, it is not knowing what to expect. So here it is, plainly.
- You arrive and get oriented. No weigh in, no forms full of fine print, just a quick conversation about how you feel and what you want to try.
- You try your session. Whatever matched your feeling check, infrared fitness, recovery, or a body treatment, this is the part where you actually feel it.
- You leave with a next step, not a contract. We will tell you what we noticed and what we would suggest, and it is entirely up to you what happens after that.
Plan on about 45 minutes. Comfortable clothes are all you need. There is no contract waiting for you at the door.
Follow along before you book
Not ready to book yet? That is completely fine. Follow Body Lab on Instagram for the everyday version of what happens in studio, real sessions, real questions answered, and the occasional “wait, that machine does what” moment. It is the easiest way to keep learning until you are ready for your first visit.
The best way to understand Body Lab is to try it
Body Lab is an infrared fitness and wellness studio here in Myrtle Beach. We bring infrared, red light, body treatments, and recovery technology together in one connected system, so nothing you do here works in isolation.
Some people come for sore muscles or joint discomfort. Some come for circulation, lymphatic flow, and a healthier glow. Some are working on their weight and want support that does not punish their body. And some just want to feel better in their body without doing anything extreme. All of it is welcome here.
Infrared supports movement, sweat, circulation, and recovery. Red light supports skin, glow, and tissue recovery. Body treatments help support smoothing, lymphatic flow, and how you feel in your own skin. Put together, they support you.
You do not need to know the exact plan before you walk in. You just need to know how you feel today.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I get pressured to buy a membership?
No. Our team’s job on your first visit is to help you understand your body and your options, not to push a sale. Plenty of people try a single visit and decide later, on their own time, if they want more.
What should I wear?
Comfortable workout clothes are perfect. If you are trying infrared fitness, sneakers help too.
Do I need to be in good shape already?
Not at all. Sessions are built around how your body feels that day, not a fitness level you need to hit first.
How long does a first visit take?
Around 45 minutes, including a short conversation before and after your session.
Does infrared or red light actually do anything, or is it just marketing?
Infrared helps support movement, sweat, circulation, and recovery. Red light helps support skin, glow, and tissue recovery. Many clients report feeling looser, lighter, or more relaxed after a session, though results vary from person to person.
